Word Processing Activities

Classroom labels and Signs

In order to give the children lots of practice using a word processor program, and to help them become familiar with the keyboard, many classroom labels can be made. Ask the children to think of all the possible labels needed both in the classroom and around the school. Hold a brainstorming session with them to get lots of ideas.

On the chalkboard or a large piece of paper, record their ideas initially for the types of notices and labels required, for example, for storage items, for directions, for information, for naming, descriptions, for display work, for instructions etc. Under each heading decide the labels or notices needed. Collect all the information together and then divide between groups of children. Ask each group to produce the labels or notices in an attractive format.

Perhaps the class could "advertise" their sign making skills, and offer this as a service to others around the school.
