Y6 Use a spreadsheet model with some understanding of the formulae needed, and be able to explain the results of different choices.

Add and amend a given ICT model to solve a problem through a review of the rules and variables. Be able to ask "What if?" and consider if the results are realistic.

E.g. Children explore the relationship between area and perimeter using a spreadsheet.

Be able to predict and test using the model, as part of some research.

E.g comparing costs and value of providers for an event.

I know how to enter formulae, change data and predict the results.
I know how to edit formulae.
I know how to copy formulae to create tables of results.
I know how to select an area of the sheet and produce a graph.

I know how to format cells to fix the number of decimal places.
I know how to set up a spreadsheet to model a mathematical investigation.
I know how to use the spreadsheet model to answer questions

I know how to adapt, or create a new model to answer new questions
I am able to develop a hypothesis and create a spreadsheet model to test it.

Assessment Outcomes

1

Explore models to answer 'What if ... ?'

To use a spreadsheet model to find answers to questions.

Use a pre-prepared spreadsheet (including formula) to calculate costs e.g. pocket money.

Columns & rows Formulae

Spreadsheet e.g. Excel / Number Magic / Textease Spreadsheet

Level 3:
I can use ICT based models or simulations to help find things out and I am aware of the consequences of my choices.

Level 4:
I use a computer to investigate changes in patterns and relationships.  I make changes to find out what happens.  I can usually predict what might happen.

Level 5:
I can use an ICT model to test out an idea.  I change values in the model to see if my idea is right or wrong.

2

Explore models to answer 'What if ... ?'

To enter formulae within a spreadsheet.

Enter formula within a pre-prepared spreadsheet to calculate costs e.g. shopping list.

3

Explore models to answer 'What if ... ?'

To enter data and formulae within a spreadsheet.

Create a spreadsheet to calculate costs e.g. tuck shop.
