E.g. Collecting and analysing class based data about themselves (validity/accuracy) E.g. Interpreting a chart and asking appropriate questions.

Identify and develop a means of collection, and collect appropriate data, and use it to answer questions.

Pupils sort pictures of objects e.g. minibeasts using questions with yes/no answers & record this using a tree diagram.

Pupils think of questions about a group of objects that would have a yes/no answer.  The class work together to create and test a branching database to sort these.

Use a pre-prepared database & demo how to search for items.  Pupils suggest questions to search for the answers to.  Pupils also identify questions the database can’t answer (i.e. info hasn’t been included).

To collect and enter data into a database.

Conduct a class survey & create a database with the class.  Pupils enter their data.  With the class produce a list of questions & search the database to find the answers.
