Investigate physical data through sensing systems and data loggers.

E.g. investigate temperature changes overnight. (Sc Unit 4c – keeping warm?)

Use sensors to trigger activity, using equipment or programmable software

E.g.create an automatic light, or a thermostatic fan, for a greenhouse.

 
  • I am able to measure temperature sound or light with a meter
  • I can attach sensors and collect data to display readings on the computer.
  • I can talk about my line graph, and explain the changes that it shows.
  • I can explain why a line graph is better than a bar chart to show continuous change.
  • I can explain the advantages of using sensors to monitor changes.

Introduction to Control and Simulations

This activity aims to familiarise pupils with the concept of how input devices can control a process. They learn that devices such as light sensors, pressure pads and temperature gauges can measure changes in the environment and that they can then program a computer to carry out a process when it detects some sort of change. They learn some of the control language necessary to program the computer to make such decisions ("until" and "then"). Click here.
